BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

The ideal candidate will lead the economic and business development efforts of the Town.  Identify, develop and implement strategies to attract new business projects and promote commercial and industrial growth.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

  • Actively search for opportunities to attract and expand business through multiple channels.
  • Make cold calls inside and outside the local market area to develop a pipeline of potential businesses to locate in or near South Hill.
  • Actively promote the attributes, and business and industrial potential of South Hill through relationships with community leaders, personal contacts, business and industry leaders.
  • Participate in associations, attend conferences/functions and pursue opportunities to develop and leverage a network of contacts for building business relationships.
  • Develop proposals that address the needs of prospective businesses.
  • Present opportunities for new technology and/or cutting edge marketing strategies to current and potential business owners.
  • Conduct research on market trends and how to develop and implement effective business recruitment strategies.
  • Research and understand companies’ people, goals and capabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Economic Development, Public Administration, or related field. 

Five years of progressively responsible experience in economic/business development work, with demonstrated leadership skills and accomplishments.

Business management skills and the ability to mentor potential business developers

Ability to interpret and analyze market data

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Independent, creative self-starter

CERTIFIED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS

Duties include:  Enforcing the law, investigating criminal activity, ensuring public safety, responding to radio dispatches, answering calls and complaints, interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects, and preparing a variety of reports.

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:  A U.S. Citizen, at least 21 years of age, a high school graduate or possess a General Education Degree (G.E.D.), possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License, able to bend, stoop and lift items weighing 25 pounds and occasional lifting of items weighing 50 pounds or more. Graduation/Certification from Basic Law Enforcement Training as a police officer in the Commonwealth of Virginia, general knowledge of the geography of the Town of South Hill, ability to carry out verbal and written instructions, ability to firmly and tactfully deal with the public, analyze situations and adopt quick, effective course of action, skilled in the use of firearms and emergency vehicles.

The typical annual starting salary range for the position is $33,280 to $39,241, depending on experience.

Please note, this position is for individuals who currently have a DCJS Certification.
