Certified and Noncertified Law Enforcement Officers
The Town of South Hill Police Department is seeking applications for Certified and Noncertified Law Enforcement Officers.
Duties include: Enforcing the Code of Virginia and ordinances of the Town of South Hill, investigating criminal activity, ensuring public safety, responding to radio dispatches, answering calls and complaints, interviewing victims, witnesses, suspects, preparing a variety of reports and courtroom testimony.
EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED: A U.S. Citizen, at least 21 years of age, a high school graduate or possess a General Education Degree (G.E.D.), possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License, able to bend, stoop and lift items weighing 25 pounds and occasional lifting of items weighing 50 pounds or more. Graduation/Certification from Basic Law Enforcement Training as a police officer in the Commonwealth of Virginia, general knowledge of the geography of the Town of South Hill, ability to carry out verbal and written instructions, ability to firmly and tactfully deal with the public, analyze situations and adopt quick, effective course of action, skilled in the use of firearms and emergency vehicles.
Applicants must successfully complete a written test, oral interviews, an extensive background investigation, medical examination, drug screen, etc.
The typical annual starting salary range for the position is $33,280 to $39,241, depending on experience.

Accounting Technician I
The Town of South Hill has an opening for an Accounting Technician I.
Must be able to complete these tasks at a routine clerical level:
- answer telephone courteously, professionally and promptly;
- route calls to the appropriate department or individual;
- provide general information about services, schedules, fees, and procedures;
- refer complaints to the appropriate person/department;
- receive, process and record customer payments;
- count and issue change to customer accurately;
- reconcile cash and checks on hand with the day’s receipts;
- tabulate, post and validate cash receipts and disbursements;
- prepare bank deposits;
- perform routine data entry on the computer;
- perform routine filing;
- maintain appropriate records and files;
- schedule work orders for various Town services; and
- operate office machines, calculator, copier, postage meter, computer and peripherals.
Must have excellent customer service skills and a professional, positive demeanor.
Must have experience working in a front office setting, and ability to interact professionally with a diverse clientele.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and superior math/accounting skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma required and at least 12 months experience in customer service preferred.
